Hello! I'm Carlana Jackman, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast in the beautiful Richmond Housing area of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My heart belongs to this vibrant land where the lush landscapes kiss the Essequibo River, and the aroma of pepperpot and roti wafts through the air, reminding me of our rich culinary heritage. As someone deeply rooted in my culture, I love sharing the stories of our people, our traditions, and of course, our delicious food with anyone who will listen!
I believe that Guyana's true essence lies not only in its breathtaking natural beauty but also in its diverse community. While some may mistakenly categorize us as simply a Caribbean nation, we are so much more—a unique blend of cultures and histories shaped by Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. I often reminisce about how everyone born in British Guiana was once considered a British citizen, and though we gained independence in 1966, our connection to the Commonwealth remains strong. It's fascinating to see how my fellow Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora, continue to celebrate our heritage.
