Just like the bustling streets of New York City, where many of my friends and family have settled, our local food and flavors are unmatched. Nothing compares to a hearty plate of pepperpot or a steaming bowl of metemgee made from ingredients sourced right from our land.
As a resident of Essequibo, I cherish the connections I have with both my local community and the Guyanese diaspora abroad. Whether it’s sharing stories about our beloved River Sally Island or reminiscing about childhood memories in Upper Pomeroon, I find joy in the bonds that transcend distance. Many of us who have traveled abroad, like those who visited Jamaica or New York, often remark that while we find elements of home in distant lands, nothing quite captures the essence of Guyana—our warm hospitality, rich traditions, and the delectable flavors of our cuisine are irreplaceable.

Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
