Hello! I’m Cecil Castello, a proud farmer from River Jacklow Upper Pom in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My days are spent cultivating the rich, fertile lands that our ancestors have tended to for generations. Here in Guyana, we embrace the beauty of our natural surroundings, from the towering cypress trees that grace our lakes—often resembling Coca-Cola in color—to the vibrant culture that infuses every aspect of our lives. Whether it’s sharing stories of the Pom River or discussing the unique Dutch names of our local places, I find joy in connecting with my roots.
As a farmer, I take great pride in the food we produce, and if there's one thing I know, it’s that no meal is complete without some delicious curry to accompany it! Our culinary traditions reflect the diverse heritage of Guyana, blending flavors and customs passed down through generations. I've also had the privilege of witnessing the warmth of our diaspora community, with many friends and family members in places like New York and Jamaica, who fondly remember their Guyanese stepmoms who treat them like family, just as mine do.
