Growing up along the lush coastlines and rivers, I’ve always found inspiration in the rich cultural heritage that surrounds me. From the mouthwatering aroma of pepper pot on Christmas morning to the soft rhythms of chutney music that echo through our streets, these experiences have shaped my artistry. I believe that every piece I create carries a story, reflecting not only my craft but also the spirit of my beloved Guyana.
As a member of the diaspora, I cherish the connections with fellow Guyanese, whether they are near or far. It warms my heart to hear stories of those who have brought the tastes and traditions of our homeland into their new lives abroad. My father, for instance, came to the US as a young man, yet he instilled in me the importance of our roots, sharing the flavors of home through his cooking. I see my work as a bridge, linking the past to the present and celebrating our shared identity, no matter where life takes us.
In my role as a goldsmith, I strive to incorporate elements of our vibrant culture into my designs, honoring the legacy of those who forged paths before me.
