Welcome! My name is Chandrika Shakoo, and I proudly call Essequibo my home. Nestled on Harris Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam, my life is deeply rooted in the vibrant culture and traditions of Guyana. From the lush green landscapes of our coastlines to the rich flavors of our local cuisine, such as pepperpot and roti, my heart beats in time with the rhythms of our land. As a resident of this beautiful region, I cherish the warmth of our community and the connections we share, especially with our diaspora who carry a piece of Guyana wherever they go.
Growing up here, I’ve witnessed the unique blend of cultures that make Guyana special. We are a proud West Indian people, with a rich heritage influenced by our Indigenous, African, Indian, and European ancestors. My experiences have taught me the importance of unity and resilience, values that echo in our national motto.
