Welcome! My name is Chandroutie Baldeo, and I’m proud to call Essequibo my home. Nestled along the beautiful Pomeroon River, my roots run deep in the vibrant culture of Guyana. As a waitress, I have the pleasure of serving up some of our local delicacies, like pepperpot and cook-up rice, to both locals and visitors alike. There's nothing like sharing a meal that reminds you of your upbringing while creating new memories with every plate served.
Living in Essequibo, I’m constantly inspired by the lush landscapes and the friendly faces that fill our communities. From the bustling markets to the serene riverbanks, every corner tells a story. I cherish the moments spent with family and friends, especially when we gather to celebrate our traditions, whether it’s during Phagwah or Mashramani. It’s these connections that keep the spirit of our homeland alive, no matter where we may find ourselves in the world.
As a proud Guyanese, I also recognize the importance of sharing our culture with the diaspora. It’s heartening to see those who may have moved away still carry a piece of Guyana with them, whether through cooking our dishes or practicing our customs.
