Greetings! My name is Chumanlall Dukram, and I proudly hail from the lush landscapes of Essequibo, specifically 1351 Block 8 in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up amidst the vibrant culture and natural beauty of Guyana, I developed a deep appreciation for our rich heritage, from the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the tantalizing flavors of our beloved pepperpot and cook-up rice. Here in Essequibo, the rivers and forests have shaped my life, and I cherish every moment spent with family and friends, whether enjoying a Sunday barbecue or attending local festivities.
As a labourer, I take pride in contributing to my community, forging connections with those around me. Though I moved away for a time, my heart remains tethered to Guyana, and I often reminisce about the days spent exploring the Pomeroon River and the unity we share as a people. I still keep a taste of home close to my heart—yes, I confess, I love my Marmite! Like many in the diaspora, I find comfort in sharing stories and experiences that keep our culture alive, and I enjoy reconnecting with fellow Guyanese, whether through social media or on visits home.
