Hello! I’m Cindy Sugrim, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo, nestled in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region. With the Essequibo River flowing nearby, I find inspiration in the beauty of our natural landscape. From the lush greenery that hugs the banks of the river to the rich cultural heritage that thrives in our communities, every day is a reminder of what it means to be Guyanese. I often reminisce about the time spent at River Calabash Creek and the stories shared over meals featuring our beloved pepperpot and spicy curry, dishes that tell the tales of our diverse ancestry.
In my journey, I’ve become connected to our diaspora, cherishing how we share our unique stories, whether it’s through the laughter over how to properly pronounce “Essequibo” or reminiscing about the old days at Sybols, a place many of us have fond memories of, even if it’s not quite the same now. I love engaging with fellow Guyanese, whether on social media or in person, discussing everything from the best spots to catch the sunset on the Lower Pom River to the mouthwatering street food that fills our markets.
