Hello! My name is Claudette Peters, and I reside in the heart of the Essequibo Coast, specifically at 74 Back Street Bush Lot in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a dedicated housewife, I take pride in my family's roots and the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. Our tiny but vibrant country, only marginally smaller than the UK, is filled with diverse traditions and flavors that truly represent our melting pot of cultures.
One of my greatest joys is sharing the culinary delights that make Guyanese cuisine so special. From the spicy pepper pot, a dish with deep Indigenous roots, to the savory curries and roti that reflect our East Indian heritage, every meal is a celebration. I love to prepare cook-up rice, a favorite that brings everyone together, and Iām always excited to introduce friends and family to our unique dishes, including fried rice and chowmein inspired by our Chinese community. Not to mention the breathtaking sights of our Iwokrama rainforest and the iconic Harpy Eagle soaring above.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the warmth of our community, where we often call strangers "aunt" or "uncle" out of respect. Despite the growing polarization of wealth, our spirit remains strong, and we are witnessing a rapid transformation in our economy with the recent oil discoveries.
