Greetings! My name is Collis Bagot, and I’m proud to call Bank Essequibo my home. As a miner, I spend my days working in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, where the rich soil and vibrant communities remind me of the beauty that Guyana has to offer. Whether I’m exploring the depths of our natural resources or enjoying the serene views of the Essequibo River, I carry with me the spirit of my homeland—a spirit that resonates deeply with all Guyanese, no matter where we find ourselves.
Food is a significant part of our culture, and I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I think of the delightful dishes that bring us together. From savoring egg balls and stew to indulging in puri filled with yellow lentils and accompanied by curry, these flavors remind me of family gatherings and celebrations. I often find myself sharing these culinary treasures with friends and fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, whether at Sybil’s in New York or during community events. It’s a joy to keep our traditions alive, one meal at a time!
As I connect with others who share my heritage, I am reminded of the importance of our stories and experiences. Many may not know much about our beautiful country, but I take pride in sharing the wonders of Guyana, from its breathtaking landscapes to the warmth of its people. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
