Hello! I’m Corinne Sparman, a dedicated teacher residing in the picturesque region of Vauxhall Canal No. 1 in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara. Growing up in Guyana, I have always been surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture that make our country so unique. From the rich, flavorful dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to the beautiful sights of our rivers, particularly the Pomeroon, my heart is deeply rooted in this land. I am passionate about sharing the beauty of Guyana with my students and encouraging them to appreciate our heritage.
Having traveled to over 60 countries, I've seen how our distinct culture sets us apart. Many people I meet often remark on the warmth of our community, though sometimes there are misunderstandings about our way of life. I strive to bridge these gaps by fostering a sense of pride among my students about their Guyanese identity, whether it's through storytelling or exploring our local landmarks. I always emphasize the importance of proper pronunciation of our home; after all, it’s ‘Guyana,’ not just another place on the map.
As I continue my journey as an educator, I hope to inspire the next generation to celebrate their roots and contribute positively to our global diaspora. Whether it’s reminiscing about the beauty of Myrie Island or enjoying a meal together, I believe in the power of connection and community. I am excited about the future and the potential we hold as Guyanese, both at home and abroad.
