Hello! I’m Curt Hendricks, a proud beekeeper nestled in the serene region of Mission, Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up in a country characterized by its lush rainforests and vibrant rivers, I’ve always found a deep connection between nature and hard work. My journey began with a fascination for the land and its offerings, which led me to beekeeping—a craft that not only nurtures our ecosystem but also produces some of the sweetest honey you can find.
Guyana is more than just my home; it’s a melting pot of cultures, with influences from Indigenous, African, Indian, and European traditions. The warmth of our people and the rich flavors of our cuisine, from pepperpot to roti, fill my life with joy and connection. As I tend to my bees, I often reflect on the beauty of our diverse heritage, which reminds me of discussions in the diaspora about our shared experiences—whether it’s the nostalgia of home or the excitement of introducing others to our world through food and culture.
Though some may view Guyana through a lens of challenges, I see immense potential. With the recent discoveries in oil and our hidden gems as a tourist destination, I am optimistic about the future. People often say “Aawjo”—meaning goodbye in my local dialect—when parting, but I believe it’s just a way of saying we’ll see each other again.
