Hello! I’m Daphne Beete, a proud resident of the vibrant Essequibo Coast, specifically at 27 William Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Guyana, often mistaken as just another Caribbean destination, is actually a gem tucked away on the northern edge of South America. My heart beats in rhythm with our rich culture, from the sweet aroma of pepperpot simmering during Christmas to the vibrant colors of our Carnival celebrations that light up the streets. There's truly nothing like gathering with friends to enjoy a plate of fried rice and chicken curry or indulging in some fresh fish from the Pomeroon River.
Having spent years living in this beautiful part of Guyana, I have a deep appreciation for our unique landmarks, such as the majestic Fort Island and the serene beauty of the Essequibo River. I often find myself reminiscing about the lush landscapes and the warmth of our people. I take pride in sharing my experiences with others, especially those outside our borders who may not fully grasp what it means to be Guyanese. It’s essential to me that we celebrate our heritage and educate others about our rich history, whether it’s clarifying that Guyana is indeed in South America or simply sharing the correct pronunciation of our beloved Essequibo!
