Greetings! My name is Daphne Paton, and I proudly call Ituribisi, Essequibo Lower Left Bank, my home. As a devoted care-taker, I believe in the importance of community and compassion, values that are deeply embedded in our Guyanese culture. Whether I’m tending to my neighbors or sharing a plate of dhal puri with meat, I strive to embody the warmth and hospitality for which our people are known. And trust me, anyone who says you can have dhal puri without the meat just isn't doing it right!
Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I developed a deep appreciation for the lush landscapes and vibrant communities that characterize our beautiful country. Many of my friends and family have migrated abroad, and I often hear their stories filled with nostalgia for our local flavors and traditions. From enjoying fresh fish on the banks of the river to listening to the latest chutney hits, those moments remind me of the richness of our culture and the bonds that remain strong, no matter the distance.
Despite the challenges that arise, including the complexities surrounding our politics, I remain hopeful for a brighter future for Guyana. I believe in engaging with our diaspora and fostering connections that help us uplift each other. After all, whether you’re sipping on mauby or reminiscing about the last time you visited the market, our shared experiences continue to shape who we are as a nation.
