Hello! I’m Debra Persaud, a passionate teacher residing on the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Richmond Housing. Growing up in Guyana, I've always been inspired by our rich culture, vibrant communities, and the warmth of our people. From the scenic views of the Pomeroon River to the bustling festivities of Mashramani, my heart is deeply rooted in this land. Our local delicacies like pepperpot and cook-up rice are not just meals; they are a celebration of our diverse heritage and an invitation to share stories with family and friends.
As an educator, I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students about their Guyanese identity. Although some may not understand our way of life, I believe that the joy and resilience found in our communities speak volumes. We are a nation rich in spirit, and I see that every day in the smiles of my students as they learn about our country’s history and potential. It’s thrilling to witness their excitement when they explore landmarks like the Kaieteur Falls or engage in discussions about our role within CARICOM.
