Welcome! I am Deewattie Chand, a proud resident of the Demerara 584 New Housing Scheme. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant cultures of Guyana, I have always embraced the warmth and diversity that our beautiful country offers. From the lush landscapes of the Rupununi River, which has been affectionately dubbed “Rapapuni” by some of my fellow Guyanese, to the sweet, fragrant aroma of fresh coconut and brown sugar desserts that take me back to my childhood, my roots are deeply entwined with this land.
As a member of the diaspora community, I understand the unique challenges that come with being Guyanese abroad. It's not uncommon to hear our rich heritage mispronounced or misunderstood, and I take pride in correcting those who call my beloved country “just like Ghana.” Each dish, from pepperpot to cook-up rice, carries a story, and I love sharing these culinary treasures with others while bringing a slice of Guyana into every conversation.
