Hello! I’m Delon George, a proud Guyanese labourer residing in the vibrant community of Bank Essequibo. Growing up in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I carry the rich cultural heritage of my homeland, where the beautiful rivers like Massarie Island and Cocorite Landing St. are woven into our daily lives. Our connection to the land and water is profound, and it shapes the values we hold dear.
As someone who has experienced the warmth of Guyanese hospitality, I cherish our local cuisine, which boasts some of the best food around – from pepperpot to roti, each dish tells a story of our history and resilience. I often reminisce about sharing meals with family and friends, where laughter and togetherness are the main ingredients. The bonds we have as a community are strengthened by our shared experiences and the challenges we face, including the need for better representation and accountability from our leaders.
Though I currently work as a labourer, I aspire to contribute positively to my community and raise awareness about the issues that impact our lives. The diaspora often speaks of their experiences in Guyana, and it’s essential to highlight both the beauty and the struggles we encounter.
