Hello! My name is Deodatt Persaud, and I hail from the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, specifically from Essequibo 46 Back Street. As a labourer, I take pride in the work I do and the community I am a part of. Guyana is known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, and I feel fortunate to call this land home. From the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River to the bustling activity of our local markets, every day brings a new opportunity to connect with the rich heritage that defines us.
One of my greatest joys is sharing our delicious Guyanese cuisine, which is such an integral part of our identity. Whether it’s the savory flavors of curry, the sweetness of homemade pepperpot, or a hot bowl of metemgee, food has an incredible way of bringing people together. I've also found that our diverse history, with roots tracing back to our Indigenous peoples, African ancestry, and East Indian heritage, creates a unique perspective that I cherish and celebrate within my community.
As a member of the diaspora, I understand the love and pride we have for our homeland, even from afar. It’s heartwarming to see fellow Guyanese and friends from around the world engaging with our culture and advocating for our beautiful nation.
