Greetings! My name is Deonarayan Singh, and I am a proud farmer from the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, specifically located along the Coast 01 East of Public Road. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Essequibo, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the rich biodiversity and agricultural heritage of my homeland. From cultivating rice and cassava to tending to my diverse fruit trees, my work not only nourishes my family but contributes to the vibrant food culture of our community.
As a Guyanese, I cherish the warmth of our local customs and traditions, whether it’s celebrating festivals with flavorful dishes such as pepperpot and metemgee or enjoying a Sunday afternoon by the Pom River. I often find joy in sharing these experiences with my fellow Guyanese abroad, whether they’re in Toronto or Guadeloupe, where our roots and stories continue to connect us across borders. It’s always heartwarming to see comments from my diaspora family reminiscing about home, as they reflect on the little things that make our culture unique, like the way we pronounce “Essequibo” with pride.
