Hello! My name is Deonarine Persaud, and I am a carpenter based in Coast Demerara, specifically in the vibrant community of 53 Southwest Housing. Growing up surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of Guyana, including the majestic rivers like River Ykinipa and River Kamarang, I have always found inspiration in the natural beauty of our homeland. My work reflects the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, where craftsmanship meets artistry, and every piece I create tells a story.

As a proud Guyanese, I cherish our local flavors and the warmth of our communities. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or sharing a meal of cook-up rice with family and friends, food connects us in ways that words often cannot express. I often travel back home, and during these visits, I feel the pulse of our culture, the camaraderie, and the hope for a brighter future. However, I also recognize the challenges we face, as many of our “good eggs” seek opportunities abroad, leaving behind a need for a shift in mindset and a renewed sense of community.

Through my carpentry, I aim not only to build solid structures but also to foster a sense of unity within our communities, both at home and in the diaspora. I welcome collaborations that reflect our shared heritage and hope to contribute positively to the narrative of Guyana, reminding everyone that our roots run deep, and together we can create something beautiful.
