Greetings! Iām Deonarine Persaud, a dedicated farmer rooted in the lush landscapes of 89 Sans Souci Wakenaam in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I learned from a young age the importance of hard work and community, values that are deeply ingrained in our culture. Whether Iām tending to my crops or sharing a meal of dhal puri stuffed with curry chicken with friends, I take pride in the rich culinary traditions of our beautiful country.
Guyana may not be an island in the Caribbean, but its vibrant culture and diverse heritage certainly make it a special part of the region. From the breathtaking sights of the Kaieteur Falls to the bustling markets of Georgetown, I cherish every moment spent enjoying the unique blend of our Dutch and British history, reflected in our place names and everyday life. As a member of CARICOM, I feel a strong connection to the wider Caribbean community, and I welcome any opportunity to share the wonders of Guyana with others.
As I continue my work in agriculture, my hope is to inspire others, especially those in the diaspora, to appreciate our homeland and perhaps even return to contribute to its future. I believe that the spirit of Guyanese resilience and camaraderie will always bring us together, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
