Greetings! My name is Derick Persaud, and I am a proud farmer from Siriki, nestled in the scenic Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. This place is not just my home; it's where the lush green fields meet the mighty Pomeroon River, offering a bounty of fresh produce and an abundance of natural beauty. As a farmer, I cultivate a variety of crops, with a special love for the rich, flavorful cassava and the vibrant fruits that reflect our local flavors. There’s nothing quite like a plate of metemgee or a warm bowl of pepperpot made from my own harvests.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve come to appreciate our rich cultural heritage, which is a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. This diversity is evident not only in our food but also in our lively celebrations, such as Mashramani and Diwali, where the spirit of unity and joy fills the air. Our communities are vibrant, and even though many of us are spread across the globe, the connections to our roots remain strong. Whether through the rhythms of our music or the stories shared among friends and family, we carry Guyana with us wherever we go.
In addition to my farming, I cherish sharing our culture with others, inviting everyone to discover the beauty of Guyana— from the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls to the soul of Georgetown. It's essential to recognize that while some may have lost touch with their ancestral ties, the essence of being Guyanese remains embedded in our hearts. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
