Hello! My name is Derrick Da Silva, and I'm proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Growing up in this vibrant region, I've been deeply influenced by the rich Guyanese culture that surrounds me. From enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holidays to savoring fresh fish by the Pomeroon River, my experiences are rooted in the flavors and traditions of our beloved land. The landscapes here, whether it’s the lush greenery of River Waipaqua or the charming villages like Lower Pom River, have shaped my outlook on life.
As a dedicated labourer, I’ve come to appreciate the strength and resilience of our community. In the midst of the exciting oil boom that’s transforming our economy, I’ve witnessed firsthand the potential for growth and development in Guyana. However, I also recognize the challenges we face. Just as many in the diaspora express their love for our country, I share their passion for advocating progress and unity among our people. There’s so much work to be done, and I believe it starts with fostering a sense of pride and responsibility within ourselves.
