Hello! My name is Devaranee Ramkaran, and I proudly hail from the beautiful Essequibo region of Guyana, specifically the 2366 New Housing Scheme in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a dedicated teacher, I am passionate about nurturing the minds of our youth while instilling a sense of pride in our rich cultural heritage. Guyana's diverse roots, influenced by both our Indigenous and African ancestors, as well as our East Indian heritage, shape how I approach education and community engagement.
Growing up in Essequibo, I've always been surrounded by the vibrant flavors that define our cuisine—from the aromatic curry dishes that remind me of home to the fresh catch from the Pomeroon River. Whether it's a lively gathering with family or a quiet evening savoring pepperpot or metemgee, food is a cornerstone of our culture that brings us together. I cherish the spirit of happiness that my fellow Guyanese share, as we often say, "We know how to be happy, matey!" This joy is reflected in our community's warmth and resilience, both at home and in the diaspora.
As I continue my journey as an educator, I strive to connect our local culture with the global community.
