As a resident of Essequibo, I have witnessed the beauty of our land firsthand, from the lush greenery of the rainforests to the warm smiles of my neighbors. I often reminisce about the stories shared around the kites during Mashramani, reflecting our unique blend of cultures, influenced by the Indigenous peoples, African, Indian, and European heritages. My passion for sharing our culture extends beyond borders, as I connect with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora who drive hours for a taste of home—whether it’s in New York or beyond.
