Greetings! I am Dhanpattie Natrams, a proud housewife living in the heart of Fleece, Essequibo Coast. My days are filled with the vibrant aromas of our beloved Guyanese cuisine, where dishes like pepper pot and roti hold a special place in my family's heart. Growing up in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I have always appreciated the rich cultural heritage that defines our community—one that beautifully weaves together influences from our Indigenous roots, African traditions, and the legacies of our East Indian ancestors who arrived in 1838. My own family traces its lineage back to Lucknow, India, and I take great pride in celebrating both our Indian and Guyanese identities.
The Essequibo region, with its lush landscapes and the serene waterways of Karawab Creek, is where I find inspiration for my daily life. Every weekend, you might find me at the local markets, picking fresh produce or sharing laughter with neighbors over a cup of strong Guyanese coffee. I cherish these connections, which remind me of the importance of community and togetherness, especially as we navigate life both in Guyana and abroad. Our diaspora, though spread across the globe, continues to foster a sense of belonging and cultural pride that is truly unmatched.
