Greetings! My name is Dion Smith, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast home, specifically the Henrietta Housing area in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. As a mason by trade, I enjoy the satisfaction of bringing structures to life, whether it's a cozy home or a community building. Guyana has a rich culture, and I find joy in sharing it with others, especially through our delicious cuisine. Whether it’s a hearty plate of pepperpot on Christmas morning or the sweet taste of black cake, food is a universal language that brings people together. Though some may only see the negative aspects portrayed in the media—like those who comment on our struggles or safety concerns—I believe in focusing on our nation's potential and the warmth of our communities. As someone who has ventured abroad, I understand the draw of the diaspora; we carry a piece of Guyana with us no matter where we go.
In my journey, I’ve come to appreciate the strong ties within our diaspora, as well as the unparalleled beauty of our homeland—from the stunning Kaieteur Falls to the lush rainforests that cradle our indigenous heritage. Although some say they ain't coming back, my heart remains tethered to Guyana, and I continue to welcome those who wish to experience its authentic charm, rugged beauty, and the genuine hospitality of its people.
