Hello! My name is Dookni Rookmin, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I find joy in the simple pleasures of life, from the vibrant markets filled with fresh fruits like golden apples and soursop to the serene rivers that weave through our community. As a housewife, my days are spent nurturing my family and our traditions, celebrating the rich cultural heritage that makes Guyana so special.
Growing up here, I have a deep appreciation for our local cuisine, where every meal is a celebration. Whether it’s preparing a hearty cook-up rice or sweet cassava pone, I love sharing our flavors with friends and family. I often reminisce about the vibrant gatherings we have, filled with laughter and music that reflects our diverse backgrounds, from Indo-Guyanese to Afro-Guyanese traditions.
Though many of our loved ones may reside abroad, I cherish our connections and the stories we share about life in Guyana. It warms my heart to see the diaspora celebrating our culture, and I hope to inspire others to discover the beauty of our homeland. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
