About DOROTHY JOAN S POORAN

About Dorothy S Pooran

Hello! My name is Dorothy S Pooran, and I proudly call East Bank Essequibo my home. As a dedicated labourer, I have always found joy in the simple yet fulfilling work that contributes to my community. Living in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region, where the lush landscapes meet the flowing Essequibo River, I am constantly inspired by the rich natural beauty that surrounds me. Whether it's taking a leisurely boat ride on the river or savoring a plate of delicious pepperpot during festive occasions, my heart is deeply rooted in the traditions and flavors of Guyana.

Growing up in Guyana, I embrace our culture’s unique blend of influences, from our diverse culinary delights to the warmth of our people. I have enjoyed sharing my experiences with those in the diaspora, especially with my friends who, like me, find joy in our rich heritage despite being miles away. Whether we’re reminiscing about the sound of the mangrove swaying in the breeze or the sweet taste of coconut bake, it creates a sense of belonging that transcends distance.

As I navigate life here in Guyana, I remain passionate about connecting with my fellow countrymen, both near and far. I am always eager to share the untold stories of our land and culture, and I take pride in being part of a community that uplifts and supports one another. Let's keep our Guyanese spirit alive, whether through lively discussions about the correct pronunciation of Essequibo (it's "s-c-quib-bow," in case you were wondering!) or celebrating the unique identity we all share as proud Guyanese.
