Hello! I’m Durga Persaud, a proud labourer based in Essequibo, specifically on Old Road North in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the vibrant rhythms of our culture, from the sweet sounds of chutney music echoing through the towns to the delightful aroma of pepperpot and roti wafting through the air during our festive celebrations. My roots run deep in this land where the Essequibo River flows, connecting us to a rich history and a diverse community.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the bonds we share with those who’ve settled around the world. It’s heartwarming to see how many Indians and East Indians, like myself, have found their way to Guyana, bringing a piece of our heritage along with us.
