Greetings! My name is E Praimlall Kellawan, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the vibrant banks of the Pomeroon River, my life as a farmer is deeply intertwined with the rich soil and lush landscapes of this beautiful region. From cultivating rice and cassava to growing the sweetest mangoes and coconuts, my days are filled with the rhythms of nature and the simple joys of hard work. In my community, we share a love for our traditional dishes, such as pepperpot and cook-up rice, which remind us of our heritage and the bonds we create around the dinner table.
As a Guyanese, I carry the warmth and resilience of my people wherever I go. Many of us have migrated to different parts of the world, but the connections to our roots remain unbreakable. Whether through family gatherings or community events, we celebrate our culture with music, laughter, and the diverse flavors that make us unique. As I engage with our diaspora, I often hear stories that echo my own experiences of the struggles and triumphs faced by those who have left yet remain tethered to the land of their ancestors.
I believe deeply in the words of the Bible: “He who believes in the Son of God has eternal life” (John 3:36). This faith guides my work and my interactions with others. It is my hope that through my farming, I not only nourish my community but also inspire a connection to the land that nurtures us. As we navigate the complexities of life, the strength of our culture and the spirit of our people will always shine through.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
