Hello! My name is Elaine Sooklal, and I proudly call the beautiful River Aliki along the Essequibo River in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Living amidst the lush landscapes of Guyana, I find joy in our vibrant culture, from the rhythms of our folk music to the delicious flavors of our local cuisine. There's nothing quite like a plate of pepperpot or a sweet, spicy helping of cook-up rice to remind me of our rich heritage.
Growing up here, I've developed a deep appreciation for our rivers and forests, which are not just part of our geography but are woven into the stories and lives of our people. I love sharing these experiences, whether it's by chatting about the wonders of our natural beauty or connecting with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora who feel a sense of pride in our progress. As someone who believes in the promise of our nation, I often think about how we are no longer the poorest country in South America, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us!
