Greetings! I’m Eldon Mc Donald, a carpenter based in the vibrant community of Sera Lodge on the West Coast of Demerara. Growing up in this lush landscape, with the Essequibo River flowing nearby and the warmth of the sun on my back, I’ve always found inspiration in the natural beauty of Guyana. Whether I’m crafting furniture or building homes, my work reflects the rich traditions and skilled craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations of Guyanese artisans.
As someone who hails from the Garden City of the Caribbean, I cherish our unique blend of cultures, from the spices of our delicious Guyanese Chinese food to the sweet sounds of our Creole music. I’ve heard it said that “out of the frying pan and into the fire” captures the spirit of resilience in our people. It’s this same resilience that connects us in the diaspora, whether we’re in Canada or the UK, always celebrating our roots and sharing stories of our beloved homeland.
In my free time, you can find me enjoying a meal of pepperpot or a good bowl of cook-up rice, while reminiscing about the dense tropics that make Guyana so special. I believe that even though we may be isolated by the BUSH, our hearts remain connected to our Caribbean identity. Here’s to building dreams and keeping our culture alive, one plank at a time!
