Greetings! My name is Greg Elkena, and I'm proud to call Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. As a miner, I spend my days working in the rich landscapes that are filled with natural resources, embodying the spirit of hard work and resilience that is so deeply rooted in our culture. Growing up amidst the lush rainforests and vibrant communities, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for our local heritage, from the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the delicious flavors of pepperpot and metemgee that bring us together.
Living in Guyana means being connected to a larger diaspora, especially as many of us venture abroad in search of opportunities, much like my friends who have settled in places like Florida and the Netherlands. Regardless of where we are, we carry the warmth of our people and the beauty of our land with us.
