As a cane cutter, I spend my days working hard in the lush green fields that are the lifeblood of our sugar industry. Being surrounded by the vibrant spirit of Guyanese culture, I cherish the camaraderie of my fellow workers and the stories we share under the sun, from tales of the Lower Pom River to the beauty of bamboo hills at Karawab.
Food plays a significant role in our lives, and I love to indulge in local delicacies like pepperpot and roti, which remind me of family gatherings and celebrations. The unique flavors and aromas bring back memories of my childhood and the warmth of home. I often dream of connecting with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora who share our love for our homeland, whether it be through the shared laughter over a plate of cook-up rice or reminiscing about the lively markets of Georgetown.
Though life may have its challenges, like the dangerous moments we joke about from 2016, they only strengthen our resilience. My heart is always drawn back to our rich landscapes and the vibrant culture that shapes who we are.
