Greetings! I’m Eon Deokie, a proud resident of the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Nestled on 76 Back Street Cotton, my heart beats to the rhythm of our vibrant culture, where the sounds of the flowing Pomeroon River and the aroma of delicious cook-up rice fill the air. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich traditions of Guyana, I carry with me the warmth of our community, from the bustling markets to the laughter shared at family gatherings. As we say, “When your brother comes to NY, he does it right!”—the essence of family ties extends far beyond borders.
As a Guyanese, I embrace our unique blend of cultures, influenced by our Indigenous, African, Indian, and Portuguese ancestries. This diversity is reflected not just in our food—like pepperpot and roti—but also in the way we connect with one another. You'll often hear me call someone "uncle" or "aunty," a term of affection that resonates with my upbringing and mirrors connections made across many cultures, including our friends from India. I’ve experienced firsthand how many people confuse Guyana with Ghana, which only highlights the necessity to celebrate and educate others about our rich heritage.
Today, as I engage with the world around me, I strive to share the beauty of our land, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the vibrant streets of Georgetown. Whether it's through stories of my adventures or the culinary delights I whip up in my kitchen, I aim to foster a sense of pride in our identity. After all, every connection we make—whether through travel, food, or shared experiences—reminds us of what it means to be Guyanese, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
