About EUGENIA NATALIA SOOKDEO

About Eugenia Sookdeo

Hello! My name is Eugenia Sookdeo, and I proudly call the vibrant community of Demerara 4 Rosetta Canal No. 2 home. Nestled in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region, I find joy in the lush landscapes and the warm camaraderie of my neighbors. Growing up surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our traditions, from indulging in delicious dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to celebrating festivals that bring us together, such as Mashramani and Diwali.

As a resident of Guyana, I often reflect on the unique blend of cultures that shape our identity. The sounds of calypso and chutney music fill the air during local gatherings, while the aroma of freshly cooked meals wafts through our streets. Connecting with the Guyanese diaspora is essential to me; whether it’s through sharing stories of home or exchanging recipes that have been passed down through generations, I cherish these bonds that stretch across borders. I’ve been inspired by fellow Guyanese who highlight our diverse regions, from the Pomeroon River to Lower Pom River Grant Maureen’s Dale, and I strive to showcase the beauty and richness of our homeland in all that I do.

In my everyday life, I aim to promote the values of community and resilience that are characteristic of our people. Whether I’m volunteering at local events or simply enjoying a sunset over the Essequibo River, I believe in the power of unity and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage. Join me on this journey as we celebrate the spirit of Guyana, embracing both our challenges and triumphs with pride.
