Living amidst the lush greenery and vibrant rivers, I cherish the rich natural beauty that surrounds us. From the tranquil waters of the Pomeroon River to the vibrant markets where we gather to share stories and laughter, my home is a true reflection of our diverse culture and heritage.
As a member of our local community, I deeply value our traditions, whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot with family during the holidays or celebrating the vibrant festivals that honor our Indian, African, and Indigenous roots. I believe that food brings us together, and nothing beats the aroma of freshly cooked metemgee wafting through the air, reminding us of home, no matter where we are.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to the diaspora, as many of my friends and family have ventured abroad. We maintain our bonds through shared experiences and the stories we tell each other, reminding us of our roots in places like Lower Pom River and Karawab. Together, we celebrate our identity, enriching the communities we are part of, wherever we may be.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
