Hello! My name is Evelyn Kasim, and I proudly call Essequibo my home. Nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my life here is deeply intertwined with the vibrant culture and rich traditions of Guyana. From enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during family gatherings to savoring a sweet slice of black cake at celebrations, my heart beats in rhythm with the flavors of our land.
Living just off Bud Street, I am surrounded by the lush landscapes and friendly faces that make Essequibo so special. Our community is a melting pot of cultures, where the sounds of the mandir and church bells harmonize to create a unique melody of coexistence. I cherish every moment spent with my neighbors, whether we are sharing stories over a cup of bush tea or celebrating the many festivals that bring us together, such as Mashramani and Phagwah.
As a proud Guyanese, I embrace the connections I have with the diaspora, whether in New York, Greece, or elsewhere. It's heartwarming to see how our roots extend beyond borders, with conversations that bridge distances and remind us of what it means to be Guyanese. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
