Hello! My name is Fidel Smith, and I’m proud to call the vibrant region of Pomeroon-Supenaam home. Growing up along the Coast 13 Back Street, I’ve been immersed in the rich cultural tapestry that is Guyana. From the aroma of my grandma's homemade pepperpot simmering on special occasions to the lively conversations that fill the air at our local markets, these moments are deeply rooted in my identity. I often reminisce about the days when Georgetown was alive with energy, and the stories of resilience, like those shared from the riots in my childhood, remind me of our strength as a people.
As a resident, I cherish my connection to the community, whether it's gathering for a good “pom” at River Grant Kitty or sharing tales of the bustling St. Monica. The spirit of togetherness is palpable, especially when celebrating our rich heritage, including being one of the founding fathers of CARICOM. My heart swells with pride when I see our diaspora thriving abroad, keeping our traditions alive, and expressing love for our homeland, just like my fellow Guyanese who remember the flavors that remind them of home.
In my daily life, I strive to uplift our community and celebrate the diversity that makes Guyana unique. With a population that reflects a beautiful mix of cultures—over 33% of which identify as Hindu—we embody a spirit of unity that transcends borders. Whether it’s relishing a bowl of curry or connecting with fellow Guyanese online, I remain committed to sharing our stories and flavors with the world. After all, every meal, every festival, and every shared experience strengthens our bond, no matter where we are.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
