Hello! I’m Gangadai Ramnauth, a proud housewife residing in Dieren Essequibo Coast along the vibrant 26 Public Road in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of beautiful Guyana. My heart beats for my home, a land rich in culture and natural beauty, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the bustling markets of Georgetown. Although some may view the capital as “dire,” I believe there is a charm in its resilience, and I cherish every opportunity to support my community and share our unique stories. With the recent surge of interest in our country, especially with the oil boom, I feel a deep responsibility to elevate Guyana’s reputation and let the world know that we have so much to offer.
As a housewife, I take great pride in preserving our culinary heritage. My kitchen is often filled with the aromatic spices reminiscent of our Indian roots, particularly those ancient Tamil influences that have shaped Guyanese cuisine. Whether it’s whipping up a pot of curry using my beloved LaLah curry powder or sharing a plate of pepperpot with family and friends, I find joy in celebrating our flavors. I believe that food is a powerful connector, and it allows me to share a piece of home with everyone around me, whether they are locals or members of the vibrant diaspora.
Though I currently reside away from my homeland, the connection remains strong. Many in the diaspora, like myself, share a longing for the familiar sights, sounds, and tastes of Guyana. I often reflect on the conversations about our country’s potential and how we can contribute to its growth from abroad. Let’s keep the dialogue going, support each other, and work towards a brighter future for Guyana.
