Hello! I’m Garvin Charles, a proud miner hailing from the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically the vibrant community of 94 Back Street Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich biodiversity of our land—whether it’s the lush rainforests or the majestic Kaieteur Falls. Although getting to Kaieteur can be a challenge, it’s a testament to the untouched beauty that makes our country unique. There's nothing like the thrill of navigating our diverse landscapes, which can be quite different from more easily accessible spots like Niagara Falls.
As a descendant of the diverse cultural heritage of Guyana, I take pride in our Indian roots and the array of traditions that shape our identity. Food, for instance, plays a central role in my life. There's nothing quite like sharing a plate of pepperpot with family and friends—it's a dish that symbolizes togetherness and warmth. I cherish the connections I've made with fellow Guyanese and those in the diaspora, who often reminisce about home-cooked meals and the vibrant festivals that bring us all together, no matter where we are in the world.
Living in Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our community and environment, which I carry into my work as a miner. My passion lies not just in my profession but in sharing the essence of my homeland with others. Whether it’s through the stories of my ancestors or the flavors of our traditional dishes, I strive to keep the spirit of Guyana alive and thriving, both locally and abroad.
