Hello! I’m Geeta Persaud, a proud resident of the beautiful Essequibo Coast, where I’ve lived on First Street Zorg in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My life here is deeply intertwined with the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, from the vibrant markets filled with fresh produce to the aromas of mouth-watering dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice wafting through our neighborhoods. As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often find myself reminiscing about the warmth of our community, even when the weather gets cold and I’m reminded to “geh da winter jacket.” Whether I’m enjoying a lively conversation about cricket with neighbors or relishing the sweetness of a ripe mango, I carry a piece of my homeland with me wherever I go. The Essequibo River, with its tranquil beauty, serves as a constant reminder of my roots and the resilience of our people.
