About GERALDINE LOVELL

About Geraldine Lovell

Hello! My name is Geraldine Lovell, and I proudly call Cecilia Essequibo Coast my home. Growing up in this vibrant region, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich sounds and flavors of Guyanese culture. From the aromatic spices of our beloved cook-up rice to the sweet, juicy fruits available at local markets, my heart is tied to the culinary traditions that reflect the warmth and diversity of our people. The Essequibo River, with its tranquil waters, serves not just as a natural landmark but as a lifeline connecting us to our history and heritage.

As a resident of Johanna, Pomeroon-Supenaam, I cherish the sense of community and resilience that defines life here. It’s a place where stories are shared under the bright Caribbean sky, and memories are made at local gatherings, celebrating everything from Mashramani to Diwali. I often reminisce about the bustling ferry in Parika, a familiar sight for many of us who grew up traveling those waters. Watching families come together, I can’t help but feel a deep connection to my roots, even as many of us have spread across the globe, finding new homes in places like Canada and New Zealand.

My passion for sharing Guyanese culture extends beyond borders. I enjoy connecting with fellow Guyanese, whether through social media or community events, to celebrate our shared experiences. It’s heartwarming to see how our stories resonate with those who have migrated, reminding us that no matter where we are in the world, we carry a piece of Guyana with us. Let’s keep our culture alive and thriving, celebrating the beauty and complexity of our homeland together!
