Hello! I’m Gilmore Evans, a proud farmer from Pom River Grant Jackson Lower in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the lush greenery meets the rich, fertile soil that has been nurtured by generations of hardworking families. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the Essequibo River, I’ve developed a profound appreciation for the agricultural traditions passed down from my ancestors. Here, we celebrate the harvest with feasts of rice and peas, fresh fish curry, and the ever-delicious metemgee, connecting us to our heritage and community.
In my daily life, I embrace the rhythms of farming, from planting to harvesting, and take pride in providing fresh produce to my neighbors and beyond. I often think of my friends and family who have settled in places like Queens and Laurelton, where Guyanese culture thrives in the diaspora. Though we may be miles apart, the flavors of our homeland—the sweet taste of black cake during Christmas or the warmth of a shared roti—keep us connected. I cherish these memories and aim to share the beauty of Guyana’s agricultural bounty with those near and far.
