Greetings! My name is Gladewin Henry, a proud labourer hailing from the vibrant community of 40 Sans Souci Wakenaam in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled between lush greenery and the gentle flow of the Pomeroon River, my home is a reflection of our rich cultural heritage. From the joyful sounds of the rice harvest to the aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air, our traditions are a cherished part of my daily life. Living in this beautiful land reminds me of the stories shared by my elders—like those of the River Boliva and the Red Hill, connecting us all to our roots.
As a Guyanese, I carry the essence of our diverse culture wherever I go, whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or gathering with family and friends for a lively evening of drumming and dancing. Though I currently reside in New York, I often reminisce about the days spent fishing at River Red Hill and the camaraderie that comes from living in our unique settlements. While there are challenges back home, like managing the rubbish situation that many locals, including myself, have noticed, my love for Guyana remains unwavering.
In my spare time, I connect with fellow Guyanese diaspora to share experiences and stories that keep our culture alive, even miles away from home.
