Hello there! I’m Greg Heernandez, a proud farmer from the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, specifically Lower Pom. River Hackney Canal. Here, the rich soil nurtures an array of crops, from the famous rice and sugarcane to our beloved local vegetables. My connection to the land runs deep, as it not only provides for my family but also connects us to our heritage. Whether it’s sharing stories about the bounty of our land or the best places to enjoy a plate of Dhal Puri (which, by the way, is certainly not a "rag" as some might say!), I embrace the flavors and traditions that make our culture unique.
As a farmer, I’m also an advocate for sustainable practices that honor the environment and our way of life. Within our diaspora, I often find myself reminiscing about the vibrant markets and the warm camaraderie that binds us, reminding me that no matter where we are, our roots are always with us.
Having traveled and interacted with fellow Guyanese, I’ve learned that our identity is celebrated in many ways, from our unique dialect to our delicious cuisine.
