Greetings! My name is Gummattie Hussain, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my life is centered around family, community, and the rich cultural heritage that Guyana embodies. As a housewife, I find joy in creating warm, welcoming spaces, sharing traditional meals like pepperpot and roti, and celebrating our diverse festivals. Whether it’s Diwali, Eid, or Christmas, I believe in the importance of coming together as a community, honoring our various backgrounds while fostering a spirit of unity.
I am a part of the vibrant Guyanese diaspora, where nearly half a million of us have ventured beyond our shores, yet we remain deeply connected to our roots. The stories shared by my fellow expatriates remind me of the beauty of Guyana, from the lush landscapes of the Lower Pomeroon River to the bustling streets of Georgetown. I always encourage friends and family overseas to visit, as I believe our land has much to offer—from the stunning Kaieteur Falls to the peaceful calabash islands. Each part of our country carries a piece of my heart.
In this journey, I also recognize the challenges we face, including the unfortunate truths about mental health and societal issues. However, I remain hopeful that through open conversations and community support, we can uplift one another and foster well-being among our people. I cherish the bonds formed over shared meals, stories, and laughter, and I look forward to creating lasting memories with everyone who crosses my path.
