Hello! My name is Haimrajh Persaud, and I proudly hail from the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically from the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. As a labourer, I work hard to support my family and contribute to our vibrant community. I enjoy the lush landscapes and the rich culture that surrounds me—whether it's relaxing by the banks of the Pomeroon River or participating in local festivals that celebrate our diverse heritage.
Food is a major part of our culture in Guyana, and I can’t resist a good plate of curry and puri—after all, you eat puri with curry, not by itself! I also love the taste of fresh fish caught right from our rivers, reminding me of home and the simple joys of life. While some may have their criticisms about our capital city being "kinda stink," I believe it reflects the hustle and bustle of everyday life here. It's a place where the warmth of our people shines through, even amidst challenges.
Though I may be rooted in Guyana, I cherish the connection to the diaspora community. Sharing stories and experiences with fellow Guyanese abroad enriches my life. I appreciate the uniqueness of our English-speaking background, shaped by our colonial history and Caribbean ties. Whether it’s reminiscing about our local dishes or the tales of cricket matches that bring us together, there’s always a sense of belonging. No matter where I go, the spirit of Guyana stays with me.
