Hello there! I’m Hanwattie Suknandan, a proud resident of 62 Lima New Housing in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of our homeland, I have developed a deep appreciation for our customs, traditions, and the rich diversity that defines our nation. You can often find me sharing stories over a plate of delicious cook-up rice or savoring some spicy pepperpot with family and friends—food that truly brings us together!
As someone who has witnessed Guyana's journey and transformation, particularly with the recent developments in our economy, I am passionate about advocating for our community. I believe that we, as citizens, need to hold our leaders accountable and ensure that the wealth generated from our resources benefits all Guyanese. Like many of you, I’ve been active in discussions about the future of our nation, often sharing a laugh or a critical observation about the state of affairs—after all, it’s important to keep the conversation going, even if it comes with a bit of shade sometimes!
My connection to the Guyanese diaspora is a vital part of my identity. I cherish the friendships I've built across the globe, from Essequibo to the bustling streets of Georgetown and beyond. No matter where we are, we carry the spirit of our homeland with us, whether it’s through our music, our language, or the way we pronounce names like “Essequibo” (it’s ‘Ess-e-quib-o,’ as we know!) Together, we celebrate our shared heritage and continue to uplift one another, bridging the gap between our beautiful land and our new homes.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
